What happens to a failed reading?
A valid reading outside its limit is recorded as measured, marked nonconforming, and the unit is held at once. The inspector keeps the unit identified, follows your local hold procedure and records the remaining checks.
The inspection can still be completed, but completing it does not remove the hold or make the result conforming.

Can a failed reading become a pass?
Not by changing it. The failed observation stays on the record, and a supervisor reviewing the inspection sees every reading, the failure included. A unit cannot be released while a failed check or a hold remains.
If the reading was written down wrongly, a supervisor can approve a transcription correction with a reason. The original observation stays visible beside it, and the unit then needs a supervisor's release.

How is a full retest authorised?
After rework, a supervisor checks the original evidence and authorises a full retest with a reason. The failed attempt stays on the record, and the unit is inspected again from the start: every applicable check is repeated, not only the one that failed.
Authorising a retest records no new measurement, and the unit stays held. A conforming retest, then a supervisor's release, clears it. A unit has at most three attempts.

How is a rejection recorded?
If the unit cannot be accepted, a supervisor records the rejection with a reason linked to the original observations. The failed inspection is not deleted; the rejection and its reason join the record's decision history.
CheckStation records the decision. Moving the unit to quarantine, scrap or rework stays with your quality procedure.

What does quality release mean?
Quality release is an authorisation on the unit's record: all its results conform and no hold remains. It moves no stock, authorises no despatch in another system and releases only the inspected unit, never its lot.
Where a rule requires it, or after a failure or a correction, a supervisor releases the unit with a reason. A conforming unit with no hold and no such requirement is released when its inspection is completed.
What CheckStation does not do
- Concessions. A nonconforming unit is retested in full or rejected.
- Physical quarantine. CheckStation records holds and rejections; moving the unit stays with your procedure.
- Stock or despatch actions.
- Sampling or lot release.
Common questions
What happens after a failed reading?
The failure stays on the record and the unit is held. A supervisor reviews it and either authorises rework and a full retest of every check, or rejects the unit with a reason. A transcription correction is a separate decision with its own reason, and the original observation stays visible.
Can a supervisor override a failed check?
No. A supervisor cannot turn a failed reading into a pass or release a unit while a failed check or hold remains. The routes are a full retest, a recorded transcription correction or a rejection.
